Managing your plan
This page covers the plan changes you make yourself on Settings → Plan and billing: buying a plan, upgrading, switching to a smaller plan, changing seats, cancelling and undoing a cancellation. It also explains who may make these changes and what to do while a change is still being confirmed. For what each plan includes, see Plans and credits.
Who can change the plan
Only the workspace Owner and members with the Billing role can buy, upgrade, switch, cancel or change seats, or open the Manage in … button (it names your payment provider). Everyone else sees the page read-only, with a note saying so. Members can still see whether a change is scheduled, but the buttons are not shown to them.
Choose a plan for the first time
If the workspace has no subscription yet, select Choose on a plan under Choose a plan. ReelBolt opens a checkout with the payment provider. The provider adds any VAT or sales tax your country charges and emails you the invoice. The plan's credits are added only after the provider confirms a verified payment, so the checkout page itself adds nothing.
Upgrade
When the workspace has a paid plan, a plan that costs more per month shows Upgrade to {plan}. Select it and confirm the change.
- You pay the prorated difference for the rest of the current billing period, through the payment provider.
- The bigger plan's extra credits for the rest of the period are added in proportion to the time left: all of them on the first day of the period, about half of them at mid-period.
- The credits are added once the provider confirms the payment, not when you select Confirm.
- These extra credits expire at the end of the current billing period, like the rest of that period's plan credits.
- If that payment is refunded, the extra credits it paid for can be taken back.
Switch to a smaller plan
A plan that costs less per month shows Switch to {plan}. Select it and confirm the change.
- You keep your current plan, its credits and its limits until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
- The smaller plan starts with your next billing period. Until then the page shows Moves to {plan} on {date}.
- To keep your current plan after all, select Keep {current plan} in that notice. Nothing else changes, and a promo discount that the switch ended stays ended.
- Only one change can wait at a time. While a switch to a smaller plan or to fewer seats is waiting, the page offers no other plan or seat change. Select Keep {current plan} first, then make the new change.
You cannot move to the free Trial plan this way. To stop paying, cancel the plan instead.
Change seats on a per-seat plan
On a plan priced per seat, an Owner or a Billing member can change the number of seats on the plan card, up to the seat limit shown there. For a larger team, contact us.
- Added seats are charged for the rest of the current billing period. Once the provider confirms the payment, the workspace gets the extra credits for the rest of that period.
- Removed seats take effect at the start of the next billing period, in the same way as a switch to a smaller plan. Until then the workspace keeps its seat count and its credits, and nothing is refunded for the seats removed.
Keep a promo discount when you change plan
A plan discount that lasts several months or every payment stays when you move to a plan the promotion covers, for the payments it has left. If the new plan is not covered, the discount ends with the change. The confirm dialog tells you this before you confirm. Keeping your current plan later does not bring the discount back. A discount that covered only the first payment has already been used up and is not affected.
Cancel your plan
- On Settings → Plan and billing, select Cancel plan on the current-plan card.
- Read Cancel your plan?. It says the plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, that the workspace then moves to the free plan, and that the credits you already have stay until they expire.
- Select Cancel plan to confirm, or Keep my plan to close the dialog without changing anything.
After you confirm, the page shows Cancels on {date}. Everything keeps working as before until that date. While a cancellation is scheduled, the page offers no plan or seat change.
Undo a cancellation
Before the date shown in Cancels on {date}, select Keep my plan in that notice. The plan continues as before. Once you have kept the plan, you can make a plan or seat change again.
When a change is still being confirmed
Every change goes through the payment provider first. The page shows Waiting for … to confirm…, naming your payment provider, for a moment, and then shows the result. If the provider has not confirmed after about 20 seconds, the page says so. Refresh the page a minute later.
Until the provider confirms, ReelBolt refuses another change with "Your last change is still being confirmed. Refresh this page in a minute, then try again." Wait a minute, refresh the page and try again.
Invoices, payment method and cancelling in the provider's account
Select Manage in … on the current-plan card; the button names your payment provider. It opens your account page with the provider, where you can download invoices, change the payment method and cancel. Two shortcuts open the matching page directly when the provider offers them: Update payment method and Cancel in …, which also names the provider.
