ReelBolt 0.2.0-alpha — public alpha. Expect rough edges; things may change. Tell us what’s wrong

We collect telemetry to see how the alpha is going. We also record product-health signals (a failed tool call, a refused request, a failed workflow step, or a chat that ended on an error) as metadata only, so we can see when the alpha is struggling. This comparison is for founders, product marketers and growth leads deciding whether their next product video should star an AI presenter or be cut from footage of the product itself. We make ReelBolt, so read it with that in mind. Every statement about HeyGen comes from HeyGen’s own public pages, linked in the sources at the end.

The short version: HeyGen makes videos presented by an AI avatar or a digital twin of you, from a script, slides or a prompt, while ReelBolt edits your real footage into a promo, starting from your repository and brand kit, and has no avatars.

Where HeyGen is stronger

AI presenters are HeyGen’s core product. Its homepage pitches “AI videos starring you”, and even the free plan lists 500+ stock avatars, a custom avatar and photo avatars 1,2. ReelBolt has no avatars or digital twins. If your video needs a presenter and nobody can be filmed, HeyGen does that and ReelBolt does not.

HeyGen translates video with lip-sync that, in its words, “aligns translated speech with facial movements” 1. ReelBolt dubs narration and replaces dialogue, but the original mouth movement stays as it was. For presenter-led videos in several languages, that difference shows on screen.

HeyGen starts from more kinds of material. You can turn text, images, audio, or a PPT or PDF deck into a video, or give its Video Agent a prompt and get back a video that combines presenter footage, editable motion graphics and b-roll 1. A team with a sales deck and no footage can get to a first video quickly.

HeyGen’s integrations reach into marketing tools. Its Business plan lists n8n, Make, HubSpot and Zapier, and it has a pay-as-you-go API 2,3. Its remote MCP is available on every plan, including the free one, and works with Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor and Gemini CLI among others 4.

Where ReelBolt is different

ReelBolt edits real footage of your product. It removes silences, and on Pro, Team and Enterprise an edit room puts several AI editors and a director on your footage to decide what stays. A color grade room then sets one look for the whole video.

Look at the separate video and audio tracks on the timeline.

Screen recordings get tracked inserts. Fill a green, blue or magenta screen with your own video or animation, and the insert follows the screen as it moves, on curved surfaces and across several screens in one shot. When tracking confidence is low, ReelBolt does not apply the insert. The same tracking can find objects such as license plates and blur, pixelate or fill them.

ReelBolt starts from the product you are promoting. Connect a GitHub repository, pick the branch and the files that matter, and the project updates when you push. Your brand kit imports from design tokens, CSS, Tailwind, Storybook or a brand PDF, and ReelBolt proposes updates when those sources change.

Graphics come out on brand. Describe a title, badge, price tag, arrow or number, and ReelBolt draws it on a transparent layer with your exact text and your brand colors and fonts. Ask it to “make it bolder” and it revises the graphic, keeping the old layer hidden.

Voice work fits the cut. ReelBolt writes narration to fit your edit and reads it with text-to-speech. With a cloned voice the speaker has consented to, it can also re-record a flubbed line in your footage as a pickup.

Pricing approach

HeyGen has a free plan with a small monthly allowance of short videos at up to 1080p. Watermark removal starts on the Creator plan. The paid plans, Creator, Pro and Business, each include a monthly credit allowance, Business adds a fee per seat, and Enterprise goes through sales. Credits roll over for one month on monthly billing and do not carry over after you cancel. The API is billed separately, pay as you go, and MCP use draws on your plan’s credits. See HeyGen’s pricing page (opens in a new tab) 2,3,4.

ReelBolt plans are credit based. A free trial includes 100 one-time credits. Creator is $29 a month, Pro is $79 and Team is $49 per seat per month. Generated b-roll and the AI rooms come with Pro, Team and Enterprise, and Pro exports up to 4K. The pricing page has the full plan details.

Before a run starts, ReelBolt shows an estimate: a likely credit amount and its usual range. If a run fails on our side, the credits come back. Chat with the assistant, including from Claude Code, is free up to a monthly allowance set by your plan.

A credit buys something different at each company, so a credit-for-credit comparison will mislead you. Price the video you actually need in each tool.

Which one should you pick

Pick HeyGen if the video is a person talking: onboarding explainers, sales outreach, training, or anything you need in many languages with matching lip movement. It is the stronger choice when you have a script or a deck and no footage.

Pick ReelBolt if the video shows the product itself: screen captures, demo recordings, launch footage. It suits teams that want those takes cut into an on-brand promo with tracked screen inserts, brand-exact graphics and generated b-roll where a shot is missing, and that want to drive it from Claude Code with the cost shown first.

A presenter video and a product promo are different jobs. If you need both, it is reasonable to use a tool built for each.

Questions and answers

Does ReelBolt make AI avatars or digital twins?

No. ReelBolt edits real footage and adds narration, graphics and generated b-roll. If you need an AI presenter, HeyGen is built for that.

Does ReelBolt lip-sync translated video?

No. ReelBolt dubs translate the narration and replace dialogue, and the speaker’s original mouth movement stays as it was. HeyGen lists video translation with lip-sync.

Can I use either tool from Claude Code?

Yes. HeyGen’s remote MCP lists Claude Code among its clients. ReelBolt’s MCP server connects Claude Code over OAuth with the same tools and confirmations as the assistant in the app.

Which suits a screen-recorded product demo?

ReelBolt is built for footage of the product. It removes silences, lets you compare alternate takes, and can place your screen recording onto a tracked screen in another shot. HeyGen’s pages center on presenter-led video.
