ReelBolt 0.2.0-alpha — public alpha. Expect rough edges; things may change. Tell us what’s wrong
We collect telemetry to see how the alpha is going. We also record product-health signals (a failed tool call, a refused request, a failed workflow step, or a chat that ended on an error) as metadata only, so we can see when the alpha is struggling. Each is linked to your account and workspace, and so to your email address; it is not anonymous. It carries no message content. Privacy policy

Runway generates video with its own AI models; ReelBolt edits your footage into a product promo. Compare features, pricing models and the best fit for each.
Published · 6 min read

This comparison is for founders, product marketers and growth leads choosing between generating a promo with AI and editing one from footage they already have. We make ReelBolt, so read it with that in mind. Every statement about Runway comes from Runway’s own public pages, linked in the sources at the end.
The short version: Runway is a creative suite for generating and editing video, images and audio, with its own AI models and models from other companies, while ReelBolt edits your footage into a product promo, starting from your repository and brand kit and generating b-roll only where the cut needs a shot.

Runway builds its own generative video models, and its suite also offers models from other companies 1,3. If generated footage is the main ingredient of your video, Runway is the specialist. ReelBolt uses generated b-roll to fill gaps in an edit, and we make no claim that its shots match Runway’s.
Runway’s generative editing goes further than anything ReelBolt does. You can edit a single frame and apply that change to the rest of the video. Add Performance maps your voice and expressions onto any image or character, Characters are real-time AI video agents, and there is also Add Dialogue 2. ReelBolt has no characters or avatars.
Runway’s Agent creates end-to-end videos from a plain conversation, and the suite also offers node-based Workflows 2. That is a direct route from an idea to a video.
Runway runs a developer platform. You buy API credits in its developer portal at a published per-credit rate, and its docs give per-second credit costs for the models it offers 5. ReelBolt’s outside access is its MCP server for Claude Code and other MCP clients, so a team that wants to call a video model from its own code will find Runway’s API the more direct fit.
At the top of its range, Runway’s Max plan adds HDR, ProRes and image sequences 3. If your delivery spec needs them, check Runway.
ReelBolt edits real footage from start to finish. It removes silences, and on Pro, Team and Enterprise an edit room puts several AI editors and a director on your takes to decide what to keep. A color grade room sets one look for the whole video. The timeline has cuts, keyframes, transitions, masks, version history and a mixer with ducking, plus sound effects and subtitles.

Generated b-roll follows a shot plan. A shot director decides where the cut needs cutaways, a cold open, an end card or a bridge over a rough seam, and the clips are generated under a spend cap and a daily budget. You choose whether to reuse a clip or make a new one. Each shot gets several takes, and a dailies room picks the best. This is available on Pro, Team and Enterprise.
ReelBolt starts from the product you are promoting. Connect a GitHub repository, pick the branch and the files that matter, and the project updates when you push. Your brand kit imports from design tokens, CSS, Tailwind, Storybook or a brand PDF, and every run records which brand version it used.
Screen footage gets tracked inserts. Fill a green, blue or magenta screen with your own video or animation, and the insert follows the screen as it moves. When tracking confidence is low, ReelBolt does not apply the insert. The same tracking can find objects such as license plates and blur, pixelate or fill them.
Thumbnails are part of the same project. The picture editor works in layers and never changes your original, with AI tools for cut-outs, background replacement, expanding, upscaling and relighting. The AI tools use credits.

Runway has a free plan, described as free forever, with one-time credits and a selection of generative models to test ideas. The paid plans, Standard, Pro and Max, each come with a monthly credit allowance and can be billed monthly or yearly. The pricing page also lists a Team plan. Standard removes watermarks and adds 4K upscaling, Pro adds unlimited 4K upscaling, voice cloning, the Runway MCP and a Brand Kit, and Max adds HDR and ProRes. Credits on Standard and Pro do not roll over; on Max they roll over for a month. API usage is billed separately, with credits bought in the developer portal. See Runway’s pricing page (opens in a new tab) 3,5.
ReelBolt plans are credit based. A free trial includes 100 one-time credits. Creator is $29 a month, Pro is $79 and Team is $49 per seat per month. Generated b-roll and the AI rooms come with Pro, Team and Enterprise, and Pro exports up to 4K. The pricing page has the full plan details.
Before a run starts, ReelBolt shows an estimate: a likely credit amount and its usual range, with generated video shown as an “up to” figure. If a run fails on our side, the credits come back. Top-up packs are for paid plans and expire after 12 months.
A credit buys something different at each company, so a credit-for-credit comparison will mislead you. Price the video you actually need in each tool.

Pick Runway if the video is mostly generated: concept shots, stylized scenes, a character speaking your lines, or edits that change what is in the frame. It is also the stronger choice if you want to call video models from your own code through an API.
Pick ReelBolt if you already have screen captures, demo recordings or talking-head takes and need them cut into an on-brand promo, with generated b-roll only where a shot is missing. It suits product teams that want the brand taken from their design tokens and the work driven from Claude Code, with the cost shown before each step.
Prices and features checked on 2026-10-17 from each vendor’s public pages; they may have changed. Product names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the products.
ReelBolt generates b-roll for an edit on Pro, Team and Enterprise plans. A shot director plans the cutaways and several takes are compared before one is used. ReelBolt is built around your footage, so if you want a whole video generated from a prompt, Runway is designed for that.
No. ReelBolt does not animate characters or create avatars. Runway offers Characters and Add Performance for that kind of work.
Generated shots are planned under a spend cap and a daily budget, and the estimate shows the most the generated video can cost before you start.
Yes. Runway’s MCP page names Claude.ai and Claude Desktop among its clients. ReelBolt’s MCP server works with Claude Code and other MCP clients, with the same approval steps as the assistant in the app.
